About The Program

The summer of 2020, after the country witnessed the murder of George Floyd, an event was held in Alexandria, Minnesota. The event was attended by over 400 community with the objective of bringing community awareness to the importance of creating a culture of equality and inspiring people to take positive actions going forward.

The event brought attention to the objective of equality by holding a peaceful, family friendly event which included speakers who stand for equality, but have experienced and witnessed inequality in our community

The event was planned by a number of local citizens with input from several community stakeholders and in cooperation with key civic leaders.

Shortly after the event, the program Conversations that Matter was initiated. This program brings small groups of people together to learn about topics of inequality in our community. The program is currently focused on racial injustice.
